Everything was going great, or so he foolishly believed...
When an accident has them burying one of their own and leaves another fighting for his life, Stoli questions his beliefs. Or lack thereof.
“Have faith,” his mother tells him. But how can you have faith in something that threatens to take away your only reason for breathing?
4 Stars!
In the Shadows is book 2 in the Social Sinners series and it can't be read as a standalone, as it picks up immediately after book 1 ends and you'll be a bit lost if you just jump in.
While Behind the Lights was written from Joey's POV and dealt mostly with how they all met, formed the band and their rise to fame, In the Shadows is told from Stoli/Ricky's POV and deals with the aftermath of Joey finally realizing that his best friend (Ricky) has been in love with him since they were 5-years-old and that he loves him back. They exchange "I love you's" much to the delight of their friends and families, but that doesn't mean that years of uncertainty are erased just like that. After all, Ricky had just about given up on Joey returning his feelings. Unfortunately, just as they find their footing as a couple, a tragic event threatens to pull them apart for good.
Okay, so I really like Joey and Ricky and the rest of the band. They're pretty awesome, although I think that they appear younger than they are and that bugged me just a tad. I will admit that they have crazy chemistry and that they were unbelievably hot together. They just fit so perfectly that it was like a fairytale. That's not to say they didn't have problems, they just were from outside sources and the ones that came from them, were easily solved.
I really enjoyed the continued view into the life in the band and taking their tour on the road. Loved how much of a family they all are and how they are there for each other.
The story is well-written and interesting, it was a veritable rollercoaster of emotions especially during the second half of the book. For my taste, it had a little too much sex, but I'm sure others won't mind this, especially since it's very hot sex. LOL Anyway, I have no trouble recommending this book, just remember that you need to read book 1 first.
