Jack and Eli have been separated for months while Jack gathers intelligence in Philadelphia and Eli spies on British officers in New York. When Jack has to take on the role of spymaster and work behind-the-scenes, Eli offers to insinuate himself in Philadelphia’s loyalist circles, taking Jack’s place.

As Eli works to uncover traitorous negotiations between a high-ranking American officer and the British, he cozies up to British spymaster John Andre. Jack doesn’t like Eli putting himself at risk, nor does he like seeing him fawning over a beautiful, charming man.

As the chances of the American army surviving the winter decline, tensions mount between Jack and Eli, threatening to tear them apart. They will have to rely on their love and trust for one another to make it through these harrowing months.

4 Stars!

Of Hope and Anguish is book 2 in the Revolutionaries series and it can't be read as a standalone.

This book starts a few months after Revolutionary Temptation ends and we find that Jack and Eli have been apart for months while working in Philadelphia and New York. Unfortunately, time and distance have taken a toll on them and their relationship, making them wary of each other. Between Eli getting close to a British spymaster to try and learn his secrets and Jack's jealousy, and the neverending war weighing on them, it might take more than love for them to make it.

I've loved Eli since the first book and I love him even more now. I don't doubt Jack's love for Eli, but I felt Eli was more invested in their relationship than him. Their chemistry was great and the sex scenes were hot, however, the way Jack jumped to conclusions and didn't give Eli the chance to explain himself both broke my heart and made me want to punch Jack.

Other than that, the book is well-written and I felt transported to the Revolution period while reading. Silvia Violet did a great job researching this time period and adapting Eli and Jack's story to it. I loved catching up with Constance and it was great seeing her happy. I hope we'll get more stories in this series, because even if we got a very firm and sweet HEA at the end, I believe there's room for more.

Very recommendable!
