Presley

Growing up as MC royalty, my path was set, but it was never my destiny. Liberated by my father’s death, I left the Heaven’s Rejects Clubhouse to make my own way in life. But fate had other ideas. My brother's club was the only option, once a target had been painted on my back, because of one of my patients. I never expected that going home would result in my entire world being flipped upside down, at the hands of the man meant to protect me. With him as a bodyguard, my heart never stood a chance. Could I sacrifice my soul to go back to the life I left behind?

Voodoo

Falling in love with a prim and proper princess wasn’t anywhere on my agenda, but from the moment I saw her, it was game over. Hiding behind a screen name, I carried on an online relationship with her for months, under the guise of club business. But I wanted more than just an online fling. Now that she’s here, needing protection from the club, I have a choice to make. She wants nothing to do with the MC life, much less have a relationship with anyone associated with it. But I’m determined to show her how much she means to me. Am I really willing to give up my brothers and the club all for her?

The game is just now beginning, but in reality I might only have one life left.

3 Stars

Ugh! We have the same situation here with Lies that I found in Absolution, I hate the h. Presley is, I assume, supposed to come off as tough. However, to me, she just seemed bitchy and unlikeable. I guess to some extent I understood why she wanted to leave home, after all, her father was a psychopath and the MC embodied the life in her eyes. I didn’t even truly detest the way she did it. It was her attitude that first rubbed me the wrong way and then never quite set right. I just couldn’t bring myself to like her.

Voodoo was confusing for me because I felt as if I should really like him but he was lacking something. He did not appeal to me or grip my interest. That draw that these types of characters are supposed to possess wasn’t there in Voodoo. I’m not sure if it was the way he was depicted or the way Presley described him or something else entirely. I just never felt more than lukewarm for him.

So what about the storyline? Eh! I really didn’t enjoy that all that much either to tell you the truth. This is the type of story that you really need to suspend disbelief. If you aren’t able to do that, then you just aren’t going to be able to truly lose yourself in the plot. It was truly much too convoluted to appreciate, in my opinion, but I may have enjoyed it had I liked Voodoo and Presley and thought they were a great couple.

I love Raze and I really enjoyed Darcy, their story was great. Personally, I loved Sins of the Father and Angels and Ashes so much they both got 5 Stars from me. Those stories feel so different than Lies, they were gritty and dark but also enthralling and addictive. Raze and Darcy had undeniable chemistry and both stood so well on their own. I really wish the rest of the series had those same qualities.

I guess all I can say is that Lie and Illusions wasn’t my cup of tea. But if you’re a fan of the series, chances are you’ll enjoy it. It’s definitely along the lines of Absolution and Heaven Sent so if you loved those books, check out Lie and Illusions.
