It's been a while since I've read a book from this series but there was something about the cover and the blurb that had me desperate to find out more. I'm glad I did because I fell in love with Teller and I enjoyed part one of his story with Charlotte. These two are perfect for one another, balancing each other out and they have incredible chemistry. I didn't quite know what to expect at first but they were great together and I rooted hard for them and frankly, for Teller.
Marcel/Teller has taken care of his sister since she was a baby and the instinct is hard to control even when she finds herself in his best friend's arms. But all he's ever wanted was for her to be happy and now his niece, too. It's time he starts focusing on his own life and getting better after his accident. Something that hasn't been that easy lately.
When he learns his sister needs advice on her daughter and it means seeing a woman he's never quite forgotten, Teller isn't sure what to think. Charlotte was the child advocacy lawyer assigned to Heidi's case when she was a minor and in her grandmother's custody. A one night stand was all he got, his MC affiliation clouding her judgement of him. But he can't help but want to see her again.
There are a lot of secrets in this book, secrets Teller's keeping and secrets Charlotte is keeping. I found myself anxious for it all to come to light and for these two to just get their happily ever after. It's not all that easy though and that drama and intrigue are a big part of what makes this story so good. Throw in the sexy, steamy scenes between these two and it definitely packs a good punch.
Autumn Jones Lake does a great job at painting a vivid picture of their lives and the emotions seem to erupt from the pages of my kindle. The characters are well developed and even though I hadn't read the series since book 4, I really didn't feel as if I couldn't get into the overall story. While the book does end with intention to finish this story in the next book (yep, this is a two-parter), I wasn't angry at how it was done. I'm just anxious to see what is going to happen and have some questions answered.
Overall, I definitely recommend Beyond Reckless. I adore Teller and I believe most will fall hard for him. However, this is part 1 of the story so be prepared for that.
