The truth might ruin his dreams—or make them come true.
When Zane moves into an old gothic brownstone, he discovers the house comes equipped with a caretaker—Kit, who lives in the basement. Zane is immediately drawn to the charming and attractive Kit. But Kit is much more than he seems. He is a two-hundred-year-old half-human, half–red fox spirit who guards a Gate between the mortal and spirit worlds—a fact Zane should recognize, but doesn’t.
Orphaned at a young age, Zane never learned he comes from a long line of mystical Keepers. Kit needs Zane’s help to protect the Gate, but how can he tell Zane of his legacy when that will crush Zane’s dreams of traveling the world? If he takes up the mantle, Zane will be bound to the Gate, unable to leave it. But when Zane realizes Kit’s true nature, and his own, he’ll have to make a choice—fight to protect Kit and the Gate, or deny his destiny and any chance of a future with Kit.

4 Stars!

Like so many of Shira Anthony's books I've read, I really enjoyed Finder's Keeper but I didn't completely love it. I have to admit I wasn't quite sure at first whether or not I was going to like it but it definitely grew on me. There is a bit of mystery right from the start and it all makes for an intriguing story as we try to figure out as much as we can about Kit, Zane and the reasons for all of Zane's "accidents".

Zane and his twin sister Ren have inherited an old home from their Uncle after he died. However, it took nearly 5 years before Zane was actually in a place in his life where he was interested in moving in. Now after a bad breakup, he's decided to give it a chance and he's surprised by both the home and the home's mysterious caretaker, Kit.

I found it funny that Zane was so calm when he first finds Kit cooking in the kitchen. Yes, he knew of him a little bit, but Zane is pretty much completely in the dark about who he really is, what the house represents and the roles he and Kit play in it all. I probably would have freaked having a stranger cooking for me when I woke up.

Zane's ignorance is something Kit didn't expect and it makes things pretty difficult. Kit is much weaker than he should be and even with Zane finally being there, Kit is in no condition to keep Zane safe. He has to figure out a way to fill Zane in on what is really going on before it's too late.

It was a bit annoying that Kit couldn't bring himself to tell Zane the truth for a while. He needed to do so and while it's obviously not an easy thing to bring up, I was getting tired and anxious about him just doing it. I felt a lot happier when the truth finally comes out and we get to see Zane and Kit interacting without all the secrecy. I also enjoyed the picture that's painted for us as Zane gets to see what this new world has to offer.

I wasn't completely sold on the romance element but I understood their connection and the chemistry they had. The writing was good even if a few parts of the story dragged on a tad too much. I liked the little bit of world building involved, the village was cool and unique. So, overall, I'd probably recommend Finder's Keeper for people who enjoy paranormal romances.
