Snap decisions and misguided ideas bring Portuguese national Mateus Fontes and businessman Crawford Hargrave together at the Canadian border crossing.
Mateus is caught in a catch-22. With his almost-expired tourist visa, entrance to Canada is denied, but the US won’t let him back in either. Crawford thinks he’s solved things when he tells the border agent they’re engaged, and it works—except now they have to actually get married before either of them can get back into the United States. But Crawford has been burned by marriage once, and he’s determined not to make that mistake again.
Neither of them expects real feelings to bloom out of their fake marriage, but they do. And the two of them have to learn how to be honest with each other to make things work, which is especially hard when their entire marriage is based on lies.

Mateus is trying to figure out how to extend his visa to stay in America. With its expiration date fast approaching a quick trip to Canada finds him in an impossible situation. Not allowed entry into Canada or back into the US, Mateus is scared he'll be sent back to Portugal. That is until he's basically rescued by Crawford.
Crawford instinctually steps in to help Mateus by claiming him to be his fiancé. A story to the officials about the two men getting married has Mateus getting a temporary reprieve. But with a fake marriage comes real challenges and the two men find that proving their marriage is real is not going to be easy even when they find themselves starting to feel more than expected for one another.
This isn't easy for me to say because while the writing was really very well done and the story itself was entertaining, I felt somewhat bored with it. I'm not sure why I couldn't truly connect with the story or even the characters, so maybe it was my mood. I think, though, if you're a fan of Bru Baker and of marriage of convenience/fake marriage themes you might enjoy this story.
Mateus is sweet and you can tell right away that he's a good guy stuck in a bad situation and Crawford while a little more cynical and jaded, really does have good intentions. Both men may seem different both inside and out but they fit together very well. Their transition from strangers to friends/fake husbands to lovers seemed natural.
I wish I could have felt more excited, more sparks or something. The story is sweet/cute. The characters are likable and the story enjoyable. There just seemed to be something missing to make it stand out for me.
