4.5 Stars!!!

I hadn't read a book by TJ Klune until now, but I was blown away by this book. It was raw, emotional, heartbreaking and still, after all the tears, I ended it with a smile on my face.

I won't spoil it for you because it's one of those books you need to experience, but it's a story of second chances, of learning how to start living again after a heartbreaking event. I have to admit I wasn't too certain what I was getting into. The blurb and the first half of the book are (probably) intentionally vague. Once I realized what had happened and the tears started, I was fully invested in David and Phillip and everything that led them to that point in their lives.

It was angsty and it was realistic and I fell in love with TJ's writing skills. It's written in David's POV, without any chapter interruptions and it has a lot of flashbacks. It is not a romance per se and while it ends on a good note, it isn't quite a HEA. This book certainly isn't for everyone, but if you're an angst whore like me, you'll likely enjoy (or enjoy suffering through) it.

Highly recommendable!

  3. TJ Klune's At First Sight series is not too angsty and is really funny. Also The Lightning Struck heart by him.

  4. Thanks for the review. I love Klune, so will check this out. I liked Rob Byrnes' series, Grant & Chase ("partners in life and crime"), and they are one cute, funny pair of criminals that bungle their way to mediocrity ;-). Starts with Straight Lies. - Purple Reader,

  5. I prefer slow burn over insta-love. Eli Easton is good for light & fluffy.

  6. Thank you for the review! I'm almost drawing a blank I had to think long and hard on a light and fluffy story. My rec's are: Car Wash by Shawn Lane, Man Walks into a Bar by Lissa Ford, The Christmas Divorce by Shiloh Hollis, and Cardeno C books
