Mistrustful of people claiming to offer safe haven, Parker doesn't want to even consider going. Adam, however, feels drawn to the voice and feels they should give it a chance. He can't help but long for a pack, something he's been missing since his family died leaving him all alone. Parker is perfectly content for it to just be them, he trusts Adam and that's it.
Needing to stop for more provisions Adam goes on shore leaving Parker on the boat. While Adam is gone Parker is caught by surprise when another boat shows up and Parker again sees what happens when people no longer live by rules.
A chance encounter with a family in need lead to Adam and Parker forming their own pseudo-pack family, but with more survivors they find themselves facing a new challenge. They will have to form a solid plan and make hard decisions. And Parker will have to learn how to trust again. Will they be able to find a place to make a safe home?
Fight the Tide was a great follow-up to Kick at the Darkness. I enjoyed getting to see how Parker and Adam are doing now that they have been at sea. I also loved being able to get Adam's POV which was something I wanted in the first book.
Parker is definitely a lot tougher in this book. It's very obvious the toll this whole thing has taken on him, leaving him jaded and scared. He feels like the only person he can trust is Adam and they should only worry about each other. But with Adam being a werewolf he has an innate need to be part of a pack. While he loves Parker and doesn't want to lose him he can't help but feel the pull to find others of his kind.
I loved that this story gave us a better look at how people were coping with this new world. Everyone handled it differently and it made me question how I would react if I were there. This was definitely more character driven than the first book and while still full of action, the pace was slower.
Overall I would definitely recommend this book, especially to fans of the first. I am anxious to see if we get more from this series and what the author has in store for Adam and Parker.
