Harry and Joe meet when Harry rents a room on Joe’s farm, from Joe’s sister Emma, to get some peace and quiet and work on writing his book, that’s due to his publisher soon. When Joe and Harry meet, sparks fly, and not in a good way at first.
Harry was sweet, compassionate and caring and I absolutely loved him. While Joe was a bit rough at first, okay, really, he was a big twat, his compassion and love for his family and the rescue animals on his farm endeared me to him and he won me over the more I got to know him.
I loved watching Harry and Joe get to know each other and their progression from very tentative frenemies to lovers, was natural and it flowed well. This story was not only a great addition to Garrett Leigh’s catalog, but to this series, as well. Maybe Rhys will be next?! *crossing my fingers*
The story is well-written, enjoyable and filled with a plethora of lovable characters and sweet animals I wanted to cuddle and hug. Joe and Harry were amazing and smoking hot together. I loved this story. Garrett Leigh is one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next! Highly recommended!!

Whisper is book two in Garrett Leigh’s Skins series and can be read as a stand-alone.
When Harry needs to get away to write his book, he heads to a horse farm away from everything. But the quiet, peaceful holiday that he envisioned does not happen. He’s sharing a house with Joe who is not happy to have him. His food options are not to his standards and the people he’s interacting with seem to be from a different world entirely. Harry soon finds himself distracted by Joe and the upheaval of Joe’s life.
Joe, for his part, isn’t happy about anything in his life. He works nonstop to try to keep the family horse rescue operational, he’s having to clean up issues from his father and works to pick up the slack for his sister. He’s really not happy about his sister renting the room out, even though the money is desperately needed.
Joe and Harry were not an easy fairytale relationship. Though they were both attracted to each other, they each had a lot of hang-ups that really pulled them apart and kept them from getting close. For me, I felt like they needed more time in the story for me to believe they had found their HEA.
There was an interesting aspect to this story that I haven’t experienced a lot. There were words used or phrases used that I had absolutely no idea what was being said or meant. For example, in the beginning, it kept referring to “horse box”. I finally looked the word up to confirm that this was a different name for a horse trailer. Though I didn’t understand some of these things, it was interesting being immersed in an area that I didn’t know anything about.
I didn’t read the first book in this series, and I don’t believe that affected my enjoyment of this book. I don’t usually read books by this author because I don’t enjoy angsty books. Though this had angst, I didn’t feel like it was an over the top amount, or too much.
Rating: 4 stars!
