As a social worker, I've seen my fair share of broken families, bad relationships, and worlds of regret.
Because of that the last thing, I'll ever do is let down my guard, or open up my heart.
As for men, bring 'em on.
I love a good man in my bed, but I’m not looking for forever or happily ever after.
That's not my style.
Please me, and leave.
These are my rules.
There’s no bending or breaking them.
Even when he pulls out all the stops,
I'm not budging.
They’re set in stone.
Or should I say, “Rock?”
ROCK
I'm chiseling away at that hard exterior, one pebble at a time.
I don’t negotiate, I don't share, and
I sure as hell don’t wait my turn.
Despite her smart mouth and fiery ways,
I still want her.
But this "friends with benefits" deal of hers is bullshit.
I don't play that way.
At least, I don't plan to anymore.
I will own every ounce of her.
That body.
That mind.
That heart.
3 Stars!
Normally, I love this series and can't wait to get my hands on the next book, however, Havoc was not all that I'd hoped it would be. I hate that I never could quite get into it or enjoy the characters, but in the end, it just didn't work for me and this is why.
First off, I'm not a prude and I don't believe women have to be perfect, meek ingenues. But I will say I tend to be bothered by an h who walks into a room of bikers and basically says "buy me a drink and let's have sex" (I'm paraphrasing here). I guess I've just gotten used to women in these books being a tad more subtle and not ready to jump into bed with any man around. Chrissy just wasn't my cup of tea.
Her aversion to relationships was just a tad cliche and truth be told, I'm kind of over characters who decide they are never going to be in a relationship because their parents' relationship was awful and the ones that followed as well. I understand not wanting to fall into those patterns but grow up and realize that not all relationships aren't like that. It's possible to find someone who you can trust. I wouldn't preach about it normally but honestly, I'm tired of this same plot device used over and over.
My second reason for this book not working was Rock. Take a hint, Dude! She doesn't want to be in a relationship with you. Forcing her to, because you want it and decide to just claim her without telling her is a d*#% move. Luckily for you, it didn't turn into a complete disaster.
Last but not least, I honestly thought things went way too fast. The plot just kept chugging along and I definitely wouldn't have minded it to go a little slower and have a little more to it. I really enjoyed the intensity of her job and what she had to see and do and the things that she went through really made the story. I would have loved more of that. That's what I loved so much about the other stories in the series.
Now I am not giving up on this series. I loved Corrupted and Mayhem too much to not keep reading about the Deathstalkers. I know Alexis Noelle is talented and there is plenty of room for more stories. However, Havoc is definitely my least favorite book in the Deathstalkers MC series.
