Flash Fic

Domenico sank deeper into his chair, reading the same paragraph for the third time in a row. He was too tired for technical jargon tonight, but he’d made a promise to himself that he would finish the chapter. So he would. Even if Seth was slow-dancing with the bread dough in the kitchen and looked so tempting with the dusting of flour on his forearms.

The more distracted Domenico was, the more prominent every sound and movement around him seemed. He noticed the rain dripping outside, and the fly buzzing in the corner of the room. But then something else altogether caught Dom’s attention. He was pretty sure the closet had been closed, but its door was now slightly open.

Some might call it procrastinating, but he decided to improve the feng shui of his living room and walked up to the closet, shutting it loudly.

There. Nothing else to distract him. Except the rain. The fly. And Seth looking so beefy Domenico low-key fantasized about wrapping him in dough.

“Psst!” came from the cabinet, making Dom freeze.

But the stupor only lasted a few seconds, and he opened up the cabinet to find Mark sitting there with wide eyes.

“Has she left yet?” Mark whispered.

Domenico didn’t have to ask who Mark meant. He knew very well those twin brown eyes licked up Selena as if she were a popsicle every time they had the chance. “She has. Why are you back in the closet?”

Mark frowned. “Ha. Ha. Ha. So funny. There are much more serious matters going on right now.”

Domenico smirked. “Like what? Is she attending the UN summit?”

“More like she wants me to be her boyfriend. How am I supposed to know if I want that? Can’t things just… flow?” he asked in frustration and crawled out of the closet.

Laughter rose in Domenico’s chest. “Hey, Seth! Mark here doesn’t know if he wants to date Selena. This will be good.”

Mark threw his arms in the air. “My life is not a joke!”

Seth walked in from the kitchen with a big smile, rubbing his hands against his apron. “Haven’t you been going out for two months or something?”

“So? What if I agree but then change my mind. I don’t want to break her heart.”

Seth exchanged a meaningful glance with Domenico, biting back a smile. Mark’s problems were so inconsequential, they bordered on relaxing.

Domenico shrugged. He had enough experience for them all. “If you don’t know, then that ship has already sailed. There’s no point in chewing on bubblegum once it loses its flavor.”

Seth rubbed his own forehead, leaving a mark of flour. “Did you really just compare a girl to chewing gum. Is the advice you’re giving him, ‘chew until you’re bored, then spit it out’? How is he supposed to build a relationship that way?”

Domenico frowned. “That’s not what I meant. Sometimes bubblegum lasts forever, and sometimes it turns into bland goo within an hour. No point in prolonging the agony. Of gum.”

Mark plopped on the sofa, nodding.

“And Dom has chewed a lot of gum, so he knows.” The pout on Seth’s lips emphasized just how unimpressed he was. “You can add fresh flavor to your gum if you put in the effort. Add more gum, crunch some candy into it. It’s not that hard actually.”

Domenico scowled. “Are you talking about polyamory? I’m not chewing more than one gum at a time. Jesus Christ!”

Seth’s frown deepened. “No! I meant just… keeping it fresh. Your metaphor is useless anyway!”

Domenico chuckled and pulled at the front of his apron. “Don’t worry. You’re still as juicy as the day we met.”

Mark cleared his throat. “Can we get back to the gum issue though?”

“No,” Seth said, but wrapped his arm around Dom’s waist. Domenico couldn’t even be bothered that he’d be getting covered in flour.

He put his chin on Seth’s shoulder and winked at Mark. “Don’t worry. You’ll know once you taste the right bubblegum.”

To begin your journey with Seth and Domenico you should start here, with Book One: He Is Poison.

--- Love like butterfly knives in the stomach. ---

Domenico Acerbi. The Villani Family’s best assassin. Ruthless. Vicious. With no patience for weakness.

Seth Villani. The Don’s son. Clueless. Stubborn. In dire need of someone to keep him in line.

Domenico Acerbi grew up ready to give his life for the Family. Ready to follow orders and exceed expectations. A proud man of honor.

The last thing he wants to deal with is training the Don’s son for his future role within the organization. Lazy, annoying, spoiled, and as hot as a Sicilian summer, Seth Villani is no mafia material. But a man who could never become a threat might just be what Domenico needs.

Seth Villani wants nothing to do with the mafia. Unfortunately, he doesn’t get a say when he’s pulled back into the fold. Thrown into a den of serpents otherwise known as the Villani Family, Seth has to find a way to navigate the maze of lies. But when Domenico Acerbi, the most vicious snake of them all, sinks his fangs into Seth, letting go becomes impossible.

If Seth is doomed to follow in his father's footsteps, he might as well enjoy himself with the most intoxicating man he’s ever met. Maybe he can even fool himself into believing that Domenico isn’t a handsome sociopath who kills for a living.

  4. Ahahahaha, oh, Dom. Comparing relationships to gum isn't even the weirdest thing he's done so far.
