Book Review: Stay (WAGS #2) by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

STAY (WAGS #2)

by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

Can you fall in love with someone you’ve never even met?

Hailey Taylor Emery has a hunch that her favorite client at Fetch--an anonymous virtual assistant service--is actually hockey star Matt Eriksson.

Although it’s against the rules for her to check his file, she’s 95% sure she spends at least part of each day texting with her lifelong crush and catering to his every need. Still nursing a wounded heart thanks to her recent breakup, Hailey is perfectly content with some harmless online flirting...until she has to meet her client. Face to face. Cue: utter panic.

Matt Eriksson is no stranger to heartbreak. He’s still not over the destruction of his marriage, and it sucks to be the only guy on the team who knows the truth--that hockey and long-term relationships are a toxic mix. He barely sees his kids, and dealing with his ex makes him feel insane. The only person in his life who seems to understand is someone who won’t show her pretty face.

But it’s nothing that a pair of fourth row hockey seats can’t fix. Hailey can’t resist the offer. Matt can’t resist Hailey. Good thing he doesn’t have to. Fire up the kiss cam!

Warning: Contains rabid hockey fans, misunderstood dick pics, hockey players at the opera and exploding ovaries.

5 Stars!!!

Stay is book 2 in the WAGs series by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy, and set in the same universe as HIM/US, while it can technically be read as a standalone, Good Boy was so good and you don’t want to miss Blake and all the Wesmie (Wes/Jamie from HIM/US) goodness in that book, do you?

I absolutely loved Hailey, she was a fantastic leading lady. Strong, funny, kind of shy and just perfect for Matt. She fit his life in a way his ex never did or wanted, she loved hockey and had a full-time job, she didn’t need him to be there for her all the time, or created unnecessary drama when he couldn’t be there due to his game schedule. I liked her relationship with her ex, especially considering they were partners at Fetch. While I loved Matt, there were a few times that he frustrated me a bit, but really, considering all his bitch of his ex-wife made him go through with the divorce and still did now that they were living separate lives, it kind of made sense that he wouldn’t think he was worthy of someone like Hailey.

This was sort of a slow burn, seeing as they’d been chatting for over a year and a half and they’d both gone through divorce around the same time, so they kind of got where the other was coming from. The attraction was there from the start, especially on Hailey’s part, seeing as she’d been crushing on Matt for years. Their interactions were fun and hot and sweet, their chemistry was off the charts and it was obvious early on, that they were made for each other.

I loved seeing Wesmie, Blake and the rest of the guys and WAGs, and I hope this isn’t the last book in this series. *makes puppy eyes*

All in all, definitely recommendable! This was such a fun, amazing read, with just a touch of angst to keep things interesting.
