New Release Review:
Looking for Trouble by Riley Hart
Dylan Sutton doesn't go looking for trouble, but it always seems to find him. After the devastating loss of his father, he travels across the country to deliver a letter to his dad's estranged best friend. But surely, he deserves a night of relaxation when he first gets to town, right? He sets his sights on the attractive older guy at the bar--except his almost-one-night-stand turns out to be the very man he's in town to see. Oops.
Clayton Turner has a nasty habit of either losing or hurting the people he cares about. After his partner died, he'd decided keeping to himself was the smartest life choice. He doesn't count on trouble stumbling into his life in the form of a sexy guy twenty years his junior... and for that guy to be linked to one of the most painful losses of Clay's past.
Fate steps in and Dylan gets stranded in Bailey Springs. He gets a job, and Clay can't stop himself from trying to help Dylan get on his feet. And Dylan? Well, Dylan can't seem to stop flirting with Clay. He tries, he really does...just about as much as Clay attempts not to like it. They couldn't be more different...or are they? Soon, Trouble and Sad Eyes realize they have a lot more in common than they thought, and once they land in bed together, there's no going back. Moving forward isn't any easier, though. Clay's always walked the straight and narrow, always followed all the rules. But what does he do when the only right path involves looking for trouble?
4.25 Stars!
All Dylan Sutton wants is to deliver a letter to his dad's old best friend, his father's dying wish. In a twist of fate, the man he picks up for a night of fun turns out to be the man he's looking for, Clayton Turner. Clay was just looking to ease his loneliness for a bit with a quick hookup, not deal with old pain and hurt. When Dylan calls him to drunkenly vent a few days later, they see new sides of each other. Clay sees beyond the facade that Dylan tends to project and wants to help him for a number of reasons.
I really enjoyed this story. I liked both Clay and Dylan. Both have demons and issues that they needed to deal with. Clay has been avoiding everyone since his partner's death and never dealt with the events that shattered his friendship with Dylan's father. Both men have big hearts and do their best to the people they have in their close circle. I liked that they held back from their attraction for a bit and got to know each other well enough to be sure they wanted to move forward. The age gap was handled well; I liked that there was some friction for a while regarding that, especially in light of the fact that other people remembered Dylan's father. I liked that Dylan wanted to stand on his own two feet and refused to let Clay just take care of everything for him. It was nice to see both of them have their doubts about their relationship, but were willing to work through them. I liked to see Dylan gain some confidence in himself in areas beyond his looks and sex.
I liked Troy, who helped Dylan flourish in his job. I liked Renee and was glad that she was supportive of Clay. I liked that she pushed him to realize that he could and should strive to be happy again. I liked Clay's other friends and wished we had seen them a bit more.
