Zig Reid-Harris has everything an eleven-year-old girl could ever want: a great home, two fantastic fathers named Deacon Reid and Lang Harris, and all the books she could possibly read.
When a school assignment about holiday traditions unexpectedly broadsides her, she discovers burying the past isn’t as easy as it looks, and the stark reality of her life before her adoption sinks in. Ashamed of the bleakness and poverty she came from, Zig struggles with the assignment until an epiphany strikes the whole family—it’s time to start their own traditions.
Zig and her fathers plunge into the insanity of holiday joy, exploring everything the season has to offer and learning how precious family truly is along the way.
4 Stars!
When Zig is assigned a project at school about her family’s Christmas traditions, it turns her life a bit on its side. The last thing she wants to do is revisit her past and the life she left behind when her mother died. Things weren’t pretty and she really didn’t know anything about happy fun family time until Deacon took custody of her. How is she going to write about traditions when she never got the chance to have any?
Luckily for Zig, her dads won’t stop until they can help her create some new traditions. Together with Deacon, Lang, Wes, Angel and Rome they all manage to figure out some traditions of their very own.
I love the Half Moon Bay series by Rhys Ford. Book one, Deacon and Lang’s story was great and I instantly fell in love with these two men and the very precocious Zig. I am so happy with the way their little family has come together seemingly so solid and natural. They are the same great characters but now they’ve grown and they’ve gotten their happily ever after.
Zig is the star of the show but the others we catch up with help to make this story so great. If you’re a fan of this series I highly recommend the holiday story.
