Cody travels from Metro City to the Caribbean island lair of Dr. Devious to look after the place while the supervillain is in space for the holidays… and maybe to mend his broken heart. With Christmas fast approaching, Cody is desperate to avoid reminders of his recent disastrous breakup, and a few weeks of sun and relaxation sound perfect—until a drunk (but very cute) superhero crashes the party by literally crashing onto the beach.
And that’s just the start of Cody’s problems—angry shark-men, mysterious lava creatures, and a malfunctioning AI all make his holiday getaway anything but relaxing. Amid the chaos of his adventures in lair-sitting, though, Cody might find just what he needs—a new chance at love.
3.5 Stars!
This story was my first by this author, and while it is the fourth in the Spandex and Superpowers series, I was able to easily read it as a standalone. That being said, I am definitely going to go back and read the story with Dr. Devious and Sanjay when I get a chance.
Cody is Sanjay's friend and has recently gone through a breakup. When Sanjay asks him to watch over Dr. Devious's lair while they go on a trip for the holidays, Cody thinks it'll be great to get away for a while. What he doesn't count on is a superhero crashing on the island, an AI system going off kilter, and a whole mess of strange creatures requiring his attention.
I liked Cody and felt for the poor guy as he tries to navigate the crazy world he finds himself in. I wished I had a little better grasp on Sonny, but he seemed like a good guy also going through a rough time. He and Cody seemed to hit it off very well and had plenty in common. I would have liked to see them go on their first date and see what Dr. Devious had to say about all that happened in his lair, but maybe that'll come in another story.
This story was a cute holiday story with action and the craziness that you may expect with villains and superheroes. I enjoyed it and will be going back to read some of the other stories in the series.
