August and Christopher met at Oxford University, where they both attended school and fell in love. They spent nearly 3 years being almost inseparable. But they come from very different social and economic classes. Christopher is from a very prominent British family, while August comes from a working class family from Boston. It's been 8 years since Christopher succumbed to family pressures and broke both his and August's hearts. Christopher and August have both been miserable, but they never expected to be thrown back together and get a second chance.
I love second chance romances. It's probably one of my favorite tropes. I absolutely adored this book and it's characters. I just wanted to wrap them both up in a blanket, cuddle with them and keep them warm and safe. They were both lovable characters. Christopher had to really work to get August to forgive him, and this made the progress of the story feel realistic and believable.
The story was well-written and the characters had an amazing chemistry. I loved the secondary characters, as well. They really added a depth to the story and weren't just fixtures or page fillers. This story is packed with angst, sadness and heartbreak, but also friendship, sweetness, romance and of course love. The only reason this didn't get 5 stars is the ending. It felt much too rushed. I think had the author given me another chapter or two in the story, the ending would have felt more complete and satisfying. Still, a highly recommended read!!
