A movement to my left caught my eye, and in the next second my heart seized in my chest. Bryan had put his hand on Grayson’s chest and my baby boy had immediately gripped his finger.
Blushing furiously, Bryan cleared his throat and husked out, “Wow, he’s got a tight grip.”
“Yep, you’re like his best friend for life now,” I joked. “Once he gets hold of something it’s like prying that fist open with the jaws of life to get it loose.”
I reached up to stroke my son’s hand. Electricity crackled between Bryan and me when our hands brushed together. His eyes held heat and longing when he drew his gaze up to mine. I smiled slightly and squeezed his hand almost as tightly as Gray was gripping his finger.
“Later,” was all I had the ability to mouth to him before the shuttle squealed into the hotel parking lot.

Heart pounding, knowing we’d never have what he was referring to, I stood from the bed. “If wishes were dreams, and dreams could come true…” Smiling sadly, I went to take my turn in the shower.
A year ago, our time together was a fantasy come to life, but I didn’t fancy myself in love with Jase Rafferty. Now, after a chance encounter and one night of reconnecting physically and emotionally, I found myself longing for what I couldn’t have with Jase. A future. Was it because I knew I couldn’t have it that I wanted it so badly? Could I ever really love Jase? No use in wondering about it, we’d never get the chance to truly be together.

Bryan and Jase served in the military together. I'd recommend before you start this book you pick up "Bryan and Jase, The Beginning: Something About Him" it's a short story that tells of their time in the Army together and how their relationship progressed during their deployment. I think you'll be missing a very important part of the story if you skip over it. Plus it's free at Amazon, so you can't beat that.
A year after Bryan and Jase part ways when the come back from being deployed overseas, they spend a weekend together at a friend's wedding in Texas. Bryan falls in love with baby Grayson, and Jase would like nothing more than to be with Bryan and make a family with him and his son, but he struggles with his sexuality and he has an evil, money hungry, blackmailing wife and an even more bigoted father to deal with.
Fast forward 5 years later and Jase has finally managed to obtain a divorce and sole custody of his son. He packs up their lives and heads off in search of his former lover. Things fall into place quickly, but will bigotry rear its ugly head again and threaten the happiness and family unit these three have managed to build?
This was a great read. It made me feel. It was angsty, romantic, sweet, sexy and heartbreaking at times. I loved the chemistry not only between Bryan and Jase, but also the chemistry between them and Grayson. He was the star of the book. Sometimes I feel kids get in the way of the story, but Grayson added nicely to it. He wasn't just in the background he was a major player and I adored him. The story was kind of mushy and a little cheesy and unrealistic at times, but it was still very enjoyable nonetheless.
I'll be honest there is a situation in the book and I read the author's note, but I just didn't like the way it played out. Also I really didn't like that the resolution took place off page. This was a huge part of the story and it made it very feel anticlimactic. I didn't want to be told in the epilogue what happened. I wanted to see Jase stand up to his father and have the last word. I was waiting for this, and I felt extremely cheated in not getting to see it. Had that been in the book, it would have been a five star read.
Still, it was a enjoyable read, that I'd highly recommend!!

A.D. Ellis spends the majority of her days loving and wrangling two school-aged children and a husband before heading to the inner city of Indiana to teach a challenging group of alternative education students in grades third through sixth. Most days she hits the gym after school in hopes of running and lifting away the stress and headaches of the day before picking up her children and squeezing a whole day’s worth of loving and living into the too-short hours before bed. It’s no wonder Ms. Ellis lives for the slower, easier days she gets to enjoy on breaks from school.
Growing up in a small farming town in southern Indiana, A.D. is grateful to her mother for passing along the love of reading. With her nose constantly stuck in a book, Ms. Ellis became accustomed to friends and acquaintances snickering and shaking their heads at her love of reading.
A.D. never dreamed of being anything but a teacher, although there are certain times of the year when she laments her career choice. Ms. Ellis had a story idea floating in her head for about a year. After persistent prodding from a friend, A.D. put pen to paper and began writing her first story in October 2013. From that moment on, she was hooked. Taking the people and stories from her head and sharing them with readers is a scary, exhausting, rewarding, and fulfilling experience which A.D. plans to continue until there are no more stories banging around in her mind.
