Virtual Blog Tour: M/M ~ The Making of Matt by Nicola Haken ~ (5 Star Review, Character Interview, Excerpt + Giveaway)
Title: The Making of Matt
Series: Souls of the Knight
Author: Nicola Haken
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: October 19, 2015

Matt Carter, self-proclaimed sex-god and drummer for world renowned Souls of the Knight, didn’t have the time or inclination for planning his future, preferring to fill his days with music, women and alcohol. He didn’t want or need anything else in his life.
Until the band parted ways and he found himself no longer living the dream.
Bored and lonely, with too much time and money on his hands, Matt turns to his best friend, Alex Clark, to help devise a new direction to take his life in. Together, they embrace their newfound venture, as owner and manager of one of L.A.’s hottest gay clubs – Kaleidoscope. For the first time, Matt has a plan. He knows where life is heading.
Until a devastating phone call turns his whole world upside down, sending him straight into the comforting arms of his best friend and leading him to doubt everything he’s ever known or believed about himself.
Alex had always been content with his unrequited feelings for his rockstar friend, but as Matt starts to question if he might actually feel the same, he runs as fast as his feet will allow.
Has Matt gone too far? Has his reputation as an irresponsible womanizer who refuses to take life seriously, finally managed to push his best friend away for good?
Or is Alex hiding secrets of his own?

“Matt, are you telling me you think you’re in love with Alex?”

“No! Yeah…fuck I don’t know. I can’t be, right?”

“If you’d asked me an hour ago I’d have said ‘don’t be so fucking ridiculous’, but after listening to you, fuck I really don’t know. Answer me this, you said he touched your dick and you freaked. Why, if you kissed him first?”

“Because I almost came right there in my fucking sweatpants and it scared the shit outta me. It made me question everything I’ve ever known. I mean come on, you can’t just turn gay, right?”

Just saying it out loud sounded fucking ludicrous.

“You’ve lived an extraordinary life, Matt. Maybe it’s something that’s always been there but never had an opportunity to come out.”

“I’ve met plenty of guys, Saw. Never once have I been attracted to a single one of ‘em.”

“Have you ever had your dick out of a woman long enough to actually get to know a guy before though?”

“Touché.” I laughed, not just at Sawyer’s comment but at the whole situation I found myself in. “This is all Jake’s fault, you know.”

“And how the hell do you figure that?”

“Because everything was fine before he came on the scene. We were happy living for the music and women, and then he shows up with all his fucking gayness and passes it on to you. Then, like the pair of you were some kind of butt bandit magnets, Ryder comes along. Then like the gift that keeps on giving the gayitis spreads and suddenly life is all gay porn, gay clubs and gay fucking underwear. It’s gayness overload, dude! I’m fucking telling you that shit is contagious.”

Sawyer snickered, rolling his eyes at the same time. “Is there such a thing as gay underwear?”

“According to Ryder,” I said, shrugging before undoing the button on my jeans to expose the branded hem of my underwear. Sawyer raised his eyebrow, one side of his mouth curling up into a smirk. “They’re comfortable,” I said, feeling the need to defend my favorite pair of shorts. “What the fuck am I gonna do?”

Tracy's Review:

5 Stars
*copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie by author/publisher via Enticing Journey Book Promotions in exchange for an honest review*

When I got to the end of the book and read the acknowledgments, I saw that Matt was never supposed to have a story, but so many readers asked for it, that Nicola felt compelled to write it. So to my fellow fans of this series and this author, thank you for requesting Matt, and Nicola, thank you for writing his story. This was my favorite story in the series by far, and Matt is definitely one of my top 5 favorite characters of all time. I adored his no nonsense snarkyness. His attitude, which if taken seriously makes him sound conceited and full of himself. The ultimate Rock God, but he came off as hilarious and with a heart as big as Texas!

Alex, well Alex is just a saint for putting up with Matt's crap. But it's Matt, so you can't help but fall in love with him. Alex was sweet and adorable. I loved his character, and I loved that even with the sweetness, he could give as good as he got, from Matt!

The chemistry and sexual tension between Alex and Matt was palpable. I loved that Matt took being attracted to his best friend, a man so well. Not to say he didn't have a problem with it, but I loved that he embraced his feelings.

I enjoyed getting to see all the old band mates and Elle again. Even though the band is no longer together, these guys and their significant others are still a tight knit family. Because even though there may not be blood shared they are what families are made of. The people who don't abandon you, who stand behind and beside you and support you every step of the way. I know from experience that sometimes friends can be much closer family than your blood relatives.

This was a quick paced book. It moved along and kept me hanging on to every word. Matt's antics kept me in stitches for much of the book. This was an easy read, with just a tad bit of angst thrown in. Enough to make the story not feel too syrupy sweet.

Highly recommended and I can't wait for more of Nicola's work in the future!

Interview with Matt and Alex:

Today I'm happy to welcome Matt and Alex, from The Making of Matt by Nicola Haken, to Bayou Book Junkie!

Gentlemen, thanks so much for agreeing to this interview. It's a pleasure to have y'all here!

  1. Now that you’ve gotten together, what comes next?

Matt: Well, poor Bruce is getting his masculinity ripped away from him next week.

Alex: I think they meant what comes next for us, Matt. Like what our future holds.

Matt: Well I’m not a fucking psychic. I don’t know what comes next. Just that whatever it is, will be with you.

Alex: What he said, only more polite. Whatever I see in the future, new house, vacations, new puppy…Matt’s right there beside me.

Matt: You want a new puppy?

Alex: Sure. Don’t you?

Matt: It’s more shit to pick up.

Alex: Well seeing as it’s not you who picks it up anyway, that shouldn’t be an issue for you.

Matt: Whatever, asshole. I picked one up last week. Anyway, you’re ruining the interview. They don’t want to hear about Bruce’s toilet habits.

Alex: Next question before I end up punching him in the face.

  1. What was the hardest thing for you to overcome that you didn’t expect to be an issue?

Matt: Well I sure as shit didn’t ever expect to fall for someone with a dick, that’s for sure.

Alex: Especially one bigger than yours, huh?

Matt: I’m not even gonna go there with you. That measuring tape was broken. End of conversation.

Alex: Seriously though, this man right here, underneath the sarcasm and assholery, is one of the strongest, most caring men I’ve ever met. He loved me enough to accept me for who I am, accept himself and his feelings, and he didn’t care about what anyone else thought.  I’m in awe of him. I love him.

Matt: Dude, you might wanna check you still gotta dick in your pants. But yeah, I love him too. Who’d have thought it, huh?

  1. What are your favorite qualities about your partner?

Matt: He’s immune to my bullshit. And he cares, you know? About other people, about their problems. He puts other people before himself, and he shouldn’t, because he’s the most special person of all. Oh, and he does this thing with his tongue where…

Alex: Okaaaay, I think you should stop right there. My favorite thing about Matt is that he cares too, he just does it without realizing. He makes me feel good enough, and for a long time I didn’t. He’s honest, even when he shouldn’t be, and it’s hard not to love that about him. He’s genuine. Real. And he’s all mine.

  1. Where is the naughtiest place y'all have had sex?

Matt: It’ll probably be faster to tell you the places we haven’t done it.

Alex: Christ, Matt, know when to keep your mouth closed. I’m afraid you’ll have to use your imagination.

Matt: There aren’t many people who can say they’ve fucked in the hospital. I’m kinda proud of that even if you’re not.

Alex: Matt! Shut the hell up!

Matt: Funny story. Last week, Ryder practically severed his fucking finger while he was cutting Alex’s hair. We took him to the hospital and he threw us out because I couldn’t stop laughing at how damn dramatic he was being, but I spotted an empty storage room and, well, you can guess the rest, but then just as Alex was about to shoot his-

Alex: Matt, seriously. Stop.

Matt: So there he is, taking it like a pro, when a box of bandages falls right on top of his head, makes him stumble, he crashes into a bunch of shelves, cum going fucking everywhere, and…

Alex: Can we have the next question please?

  1. What's your partners sexiest feature?

Alex: Right now, he hasn’t got one.

Matt: See how dramatic he can be? I don’t know why I put up with him. I’m gonna say his eyes. They’re beautiful, don’t you think? They’re like a really vivid shade of blue. Like he’s wearing contacts or something. They kinda fascinate me.

Alex: Really? I totally thought you were gonna say my dick or something.

Matt: That too. Especially when-

Alex: One more word and you’re sleeping with the dog tonight.

  1. Which do y'all prefer, a night on the town, or a night spent snuggling in front of the T.V.?

Matt: At one point in my life I never thought I’d say this, but staying in for sure. Alex is the best company. I don’t need anything, or anyone else, to entertain me. Only if I get control of the remote, though. I’m telling you, he’s into some seriously boring shit. Like that Downton fucking Abby. I swear, I was so bored watching that once I literally thought I’d died.

Alex: Well you would say that, when Barney is more on your intellectual level.

Matt: Fuck you, asshole.

Alex: He loves me really.

Matt: Yeah. Yeah I do.

Nicola lives in Rochdale, England with her husband and four children (six if you include the dog and cat!) She is the author the author of the m/m romance Souls of the Knight series, and is currently working on a standalone with new boys, James and Theo, due for release early 2016.
