The heat is growing from the inside, but danger is building on the outside.

Judge Andrew Phillips runs a tight ship in his courtroom. He’s tough, and when he hands down a sentence, he expects to be obeyed. So when a fugitive named Harper escapes and threatens his life, Andrew isn’t keen on twenty-four/seven protection… especially not from Deputy Clay Brown. They have a past, one that could cause problems in their careers.

But with Clay assigned to Andrew and the two of them together every minute, there’s nowhere to hide from their attraction—or from the fact that there’s much more than chemistry blooming between them. As the threat intensifies, Clay knows he’ll do anything it takes to protect the people who are taking their places in his heart: Andrew and his young niece and nephew.

4 Stars!

Sheriff's Deputy Clay Brown is assigned to Judge Andrew Phillips protection after the judge receives threats from a man he helped convict. Harper has escaped a secured transport injuring the Sheriff's deputies in the process and it becomes evident he has plans to hurt Andrew. Clay and Andrew haven’t exactly met under the best circumstances and each have preconceived notions about who the other man is. One thing they both have in common is their intense need for control and now that they are thrown together like this they’ll have to get past it.

Soon they find that they have much more in common than they ever realized and they aren’t really who they perceived in the beginning. They have an intense attraction that isn’t easy to deny and soon find themselves in deep. Life has a funny way of throwing things in your path though and Andrew finds himself with custody of his 4 and 7-year-old niece and nephew when his sister is hospitalized for severe depression. Now, he’s trying to hide from a crazed fugitive hell-bent on revenge, take care of his sister’s kids and navigate a new relationship.

Fire and Granite is basically a sweet romance with a touch of suspense and some fun action. It went fairly quickly and kept me quite entertained. I enjoyed listening to it while I puttered around my house doing various projects and before I even realized it was over and I was wondering who we would get to meet next time around. I hope Book 3 comes out soon.

I’d definitely recommend Fire and Granite to fans of Andrew Grey. I’m not familiar with the series that came before this but I might just have to check it out now.

  4. I want to give When Everything is Blue a listen and Fireballs since I read those and it would be nice to hear what the author envisioned the characters were and how on the mark the narrator was.
