Review: A Gentleman's Position (Society of Gentlemen Book 3) by KJ Charles

A GENTLEMAN’S POSITION

A Gentleman's Position_Charles

Among his eccentric though strictly principled group of friends, Lord Richard Vane is the confidant on whom everyone depends for advice, moral rectitude, and discreet assistance. Yet when Richard has a problem, he turns to his valet, a fixer of unparalleled genius—and the object of Richard’s deepest desires. If there is one rule a gentleman must follow, it is never to dally with servants. But when David is close enough to touch, the rules of class collide with the basest sort of animal instinct: overpowering lust.
For David Cyprian, burglary and blackmail are as much in a day’s work as bootblacking—anything for the man he’s devoted to. But the one thing he wants for himself is the one thing Richard refuses to give: his heart. With the tension between them growing to be unbearable, David’s seemingly incorruptible master has left him no choice. Putting his finely honed skills of seduction and manipulation to good use, he will convince Richard to forget all about his well-meaning objections and give in to sweet, sinful temptation.

This book is the third in the series, and while it could be read as a standalone, it'd be better experienced if read in order.

David Cyprian appeared first on A Fashionable Indulgence, as Lord Richard Vane's valet and from that first glimpse and especially on the next book, A Seditious Affair, it was obvious he was much more than a mere servant. He was a mastermind, a puppetmaster capable of strategizing and planning and doing whatever was needed to fulfill his lord's needs and orders, no matter what he had to do to achieve this. That was even more clear on A Gentleman's Position, although in this book we finally see it all happening from both his perspective and Lord Richard's. I was in awe over how a character could be just so all-around amazing while plotting intricate schemes, moving all the pieces/characters in a manner that never felt forced and then break my heart in the next moment. David was definitely more than met the eye, and I loved to see him in this new light.

I loved Richard, too, even if there were times when I wanted to slap him... just a little bit, because even if he messed up, Richard actually had to think about what he'd done and take the necessary measures to correct it and David didn't just accept the first excuse and moved on from it.

The chemistry between them was amazing, they were sweet and hot, and even when they couldn't be equals anywhere else, when they were together, Richard made sure to show David how much of his equal he considered him to be.

The plot was complicated and it involved all the characters we've met from the other books, tying it all up in a very realistic manner.

I have to give props to Ms. Charles on not only her fabulous writing abilities, but being able to transport her readers to a different time and place and connect with all these fantastic characters. A Gentleman's Position was definitely my favorite of the three books, but they all were amazing on their own. Definitely a must read!
