Release Tour ~ Cosmic Inception by Alicia Nordwell ~ (Excerpt + Giveaway)

Their journey will span the universe and back, but there’s no guarantee they’ll make it together.

Though Nick and Fieo are drawn to each other, their relationship has never been easy. Their differences go beyond their races, but they’ve managed to work together to prevent the spread of corruption, growing closer along the way. Nick still battles the effects of years of loneliness, fear, and pain but surprises everyone when he refuses to stay behind when Fieo is sent on a vital mission to find the Collectors. Fieo objects, but there’s no stopping Nick when he sets his mind to something. Over the course of their mission, it becomes clear Nick is more than anyone ever imagined, but the mystery of his past threatens to derail his future.

The search for the truth will take Fieo and Nick far from Caeorleia, to worlds both familiar and completely alien, and put stress on their already tenuous relationship. It’s a journey that will either tear them apart or finally bring them together.

“I can understand your shock. Having grown up as you did, away from the—”
“Brainwashing planned for me?”
He sucked in a soft breath, pursing his lips together. “While you may not need the luxuries of this suite, please avail yourself of them. You’ve been traveling for some time. Enjoy a bath if you wish. I will have a meal delivered to you.” His calm, measured tone was back, but his hands were clenched tightly. The chink in his façade was tiny, but I took vindictive satisfaction in forcing him to acknowledge my words physically, since he was so determined to speak as if he wasn’t talking about my subjugation.
Whatever they wanted to call it, what the Paradigm wanted was heinous.
“A bath and food is not going to change my mind,” I said.
“Please allow us this courtesy. It is not any attempt at coercion.” The Paradigm bowed and backed away. I should probably have bowed, but I refused to acknowledge the hollow respect he offered in any way.
Left alone in the gigantic suite, I prowled around the room, taking in the opulent decor. Was this really meant to blind me to everything the Paradigm and his people wanted? I rubbed my hand along a chair made out of real wood.
As much as I hated to admit it, if they’d found me on that science ship, or even on Ussmep, I might have been blinded by the flattery the Paradigm subtly employed as well as the luxuries I’d never known. But I’d spent time on Caeorleia, among a race of people who didn’t all accept me, but most of them did just because they liked me. Ovrumi had given me a garden and a nice room. Fieo had ensured I remained as safe as anyone in the city could be with a war going on.

Fieo offered me no gilded cage and rosy world of make-believe, and I didn’t want it. The universe was filled with beauty, but it was also home to ugliness. I’d experienced more than my fair share, and I was no innocent to blithely follow as someone else made my choices for me.

Cosmic Inception is book 2 in the Saving Caeorleia series, and while it can be read as a standalone, as I did, I suspect it'd be much better if read in order.

Nick and Fieo have been fighting to complete their bond, but now that they're thrown together on a trip that might take several cycles, they won't be able to resist each other any longer. However, there are several things that will conspire to pull them apart, and the most important of all, will be finding out who, or rather what, Nick truly is.

I really enjoy reading sci-fi books. There's something about them that calls to me, the fact that an author has the ability to create worlds/species out of thin air and make them believable is something commendable and this book was not the exception. Alicia Nordwell did a fantastic job creating not only Caeorleia, but the worlds Nick and Fieo visited on this journey and the rest of the species they came in contact with, she made it believable and realistic enough for me to be able to immerse myself completely into the storyline.

I really liked both Nick and Fieo, although I have to admit that seeing Nick go from being a traumatized boy to holding his own against some badass villains was a thing of beauty. Their chemistry was great and I just loved the way their bond came into play within the story.

If you're a fan of sci-fi, this is definitely a must-read. It's a very detailed, well-written book, with a very organic flow and an intricate plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last word.

Rating: 4.5 Stars!!!

Where to Find More from Alicia Nordwell

Alicia Nordwell is one of those not so rare creatures, a reader turned writer. Striving to find something interesting to read one day, she decided to write what she wanted instead. Then the voices started ... Yep, not only does she talk about herself in the third person for bios, she has voices in her head constantly clamoring to get out.
Fortunately for readers, with the encouragement of her family and friends, she decided for her own sanity to keep writing. Now you can find her stories both free and e-published!She can be found quite often at her blog, where she has a lot of free fiction for readers to enjoy or working hard, or maybe hardly working, as an admin on GayAuthors.org under her online nickname, Cia.
Oh yeah, she's a wife, mom of two, and lives in the dreary, yet ideal for her redhead complexion, Pacific Northwest. Except for when she disappears into one of the many worlds in her head, of course!
