SUMMER BLOG HOP 2016 ~ (Giveaway)

SUMMER BLOG HOP 2016 ~ (Giveaway)

Welcome to Bayou Book Junkie's stop for Divine Magazine's 2016 Summer blog hop!

Summer Childhood memories:

One of my favorite summer childhood memories was going to the beach. My Aunt, Uncle and cousin's lived in Bay St Louis, Mississippi, about an hour's drive from here in New Orleans, so my parents would take my brother and I there for the day to make that trek across the hot sand, to swim and play in the cool waters of the Gulf of Mexico. We would spend the day playing in the water, walking what felt like miles out just to get to waist deep water. We would swim and play in the sand, and well, I'm really pretty pale, I could have been a vampire LOL, so I'd usually end up with a not so nice sunburn. Ugh, well anyway below I've included some pictures from a trip about a year ago when my daughters and I, visited the same area we used to when I was a kid. The area is so different and has changed so much since Hurricane Katrina so devastatingly destroyed everything in it's wake in 2005, but I was really happy to see life coming back to this area!! ~ Tracy

On those hot and humid Southern days at the beach, you'd need something refreshing and cool to drink, and there was nothing better than a cold glass of real Southern Sweet Iced Tea. Here's how I make mine.

Bring 4 cups of water to boil
Turn off and add 8 to 10 tea bags (let seep for 20 minutes)
Remove tea bags, Pour into a one-gallon pitcher
Add 3 cups of sugar (I substitute Splenda now)
Stir while topping with cool water, until the pitcher is filled
Chill in fridge and serve over ice

  1. Years ago, I had a big group of friends and we went out almost everyday to the riverside. That was one of the best summers.

  2. My best holiday memories are visiting my Aunt and Uncles house every summer we'd visit the beach and also relatives that we'd only see once a year.

  3. I am from Charleston, SC, so growing up, our parents took us to Myrtle Beach for one week, every summer. I had the most fun ever! We rode rides, swam at the beach all day. The place we rented also had a pool. Ate out at Seafood Restaurants every night. (jozywails@gmail.com)

  4. My 5 kids and I have been camping out at my dad's property. It isn't costing us much and we have bonfires and 40 acres to ride on go-karts and more. Lots of fun on a budget

  5. I grew up in California and when I was young we would go to Disneyland each summer. This was way back when they had the tickets by letter and we would strategize which rides to go on in which order to make use of the tickets.

    Thanks for the post!

  7. I can sympathize with the vampire/sunburning! Twice I got second degree burns as a child. It got to the point my parents wouldn't let me in the water without wearing a T-shirt. Thank goodness sunblock has improved since then!

  9. A visit to my grandparents in the countryside, a place my brothers could climb trees, swim in the river and run amok. Being a vampire I enjoyed sitting in the shade and reading with my grandfather. slholland22 {at} hotmail {dot} com

  10. There were 5 kids in my family, and when we were little, we would all go back-packing as a family. My Dad would take the older kids up peaks; I climbed Half-Dome when I was about 12 years old! lotusg at yahoo dot com
