Book Information:
Author: Jordan Castillo Price
Name: Among The Living
Series: Book One in: Psycop Series

Blurb:

Victor Bayne, the psychic half of a PsyCop team, is a gay medium who’s more concerned with flying under the radar than in making waves.

He hooks up with handsome Jacob Marks, a non-psychic (or “Stiff”) from an adjacent precinct at his ex-partner’s retirement party and it seems like his dubious luck has taken a turn for the better. But then a serial killer with a gruesome M.O. surfaces--and no one agrees what he looks like.

Solving murders is a snap when you can ask the victims whodunit, but this killer’s not leaving any spirits behind.

Tracy: I really enjoyed this book. Victor is a psychic cop or Psycop, he has psychic abilities that he uses as a police detective partnering with an NP/Non-paranormal police detective, to solve crimes. He meets Jacob at his partners retirement party. Jacob and Vic hook up. They are later thrown back into one another's lives as they work a case together.

This was a really interesting read. It was mysterious, and exciting, yet funny and hot. We spend most of our time with Vic. He is definitely the main character. The case they are working on is the main plot of the story with the romance between Vic and Jacob taking a back seat. FAR in the back of the bus.

Vic is an entertaining MC character. He is kind of goofy and awkward. He can't believe Jacob wants him. What we see of Jacob, he seems sweet and a big teddy bear, yet he pursues what he wants, and what he wants is Vic.

The story was action packed and exciting and kept me I the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next, and if they would catch the bad guy. I look forward to reading more of this series and seeing where Vic's adventures take him and Jacob in the future.

I personally would have liked to see more of the romance between Vic and Jacob, but this is my second book by Jordan and I just don't think she is that type of writer. If you're looking for a m/m romance, this isn't your book. If you're looking for action, comedy, mystery mixed with a little hot sexiness, this is your book!

Rating: 5 Stars!

Mari: I really loved Gomez Pugh narration of this book. He does all these different voices, with different inflections, tones and even accents that pull you even further into a story that is already engaging and so interesting.

As Tracy, I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know how it will all play out, especially as more details of the main plotline emerged.

I absolutely adored Vic, and Mr. Pugh's impersonation of him endeared him to me even more. He felt so real throughout the audio and I just loved his self-deprecating humor.

Jacob was so sweet and really interested in Vic, despite Vic trying to pull away from him, he just kept trying. You gotta love a guy like that!

The other characters were equally appealing, and the narrator made it so that it was easy to follow who was saying what with just the different nuances in his tone, quite a feat in my opinion.

Definitely an audiobook that I hope to listen to again, it was really awesome! Fun, interesting and action packed, a great mix!

Rating: 5 Stars!!!

The Series

The PsyCop series by Jordan Castillo Price features frazzled psychic medium Victor Bayne and his smokin'-hot boyfriend, Jacob Marks. Fifteen years ago, Victor studied at Heliotrope Station, one of the original residential psychic training programs in the U.S. The only thing he learned in that facility was how to be a better liar.
Now he's part of an elite PsyCop unit. Solving murders should be a snap when you can talk to the deceased. But since no one's ever given him a lucky break when they were alive, why would they start now ?

PsyCop debuted in the early days of m/m; Among the Living was published in 2006. The series' popularity is still growing with its release in French, German and Audio, and with the expansion of the genre overall. Currently there are 7 main novella/novels in the PsyCop series, plus several shorts. One more main novel and one side-character spinoff novel is planned.
