4.5 Stars!

I've been waiting for Scottie's story ever since I read The Caretaker and each book since then just made me more anxious to read it. If you haven't read the series, I suggest reading at least The Royal Marine and The Unexpected Santa before you read this one, as they have a lot of Scottie and Gray's backstory. You probably won't be lost if you don't, but you'll be missing out on great books. Another thing, this book deals with a D/s relationship and while the BDSM scenes are not all that detailed or hardcore, if this isn't your thing, you might want to pass on it.

That said, I think Scottie is pretty much one of my favorite characters in this series. He has a lot of depth and has gone through so much. His father is an abusive, drunken bastard and Scottie has bore the brunt of his attacks. Now that his father is sick, his younger brother pushes Scottie into helping the old man, while Scott has to deal with his alcoholism and building a relationship with Gray.

I really liked that the author didn't try to portray the D/s relationship as the cureall for Scottie's issues. Scottie went to rehab and worked hard to get better for himself and his relationship with Gray was just an added bonus, something that made him feel better in addition to therapy.

The part I had more trouble with was that Silus, Scottie's brother, pushed and pushed for him to help their father, not caring what Scottie went through because of him. Silus wasn't bad, he was just young and immature, but it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. And of course, Scottie always gave into whatever Silus wanted because it was either that, or seeing how Silus would do it himself. So yeah, that was the one part I just didn't enjoy.

Scottie's relationship with Gray gave him what he needed and they had great chemistry together, despite the age difference, or maybe because of it.

Overall, it was a great addition to the series. It's well-written and entertaining, angsty and bittersweet and with a nice HEA. It was pretty cool catching up with the rest of the Sin Bin guys, too. Very recommendable!
