“I would never forgive myself if something happened to another man I cared about because I’d been careless and given in to temptation.” ~ Zander

The last thing I was looking for was a relationship, then I laid eyes on a dancer at a nightclub and my entire world was flipped upside down. Kai is everything I’ve ever wanted, but shouldn’t have. I’m haunted by a past I can’t seem to break free from, and I’m not sure I can be the man Kai deserves. He makes me want to try, but I worry that I’m broken beyond repair.

“There was already a big enough stigma attached to being a go-go dancer, but add being a webcam model to the mix and people tended to assume things about me.” ~ Kai

School, dance, cam, repeat. My life was on a constant loop as I struggled to keep my head above water. After seeing Zander in the crowd while I was dancing, I knew I had to meet the handsome stranger who took my breath away. I don’t know if I’m the right man to help set him free from his pain, but I’m going to do everything I can to try and help him see that the past doesn’t have to define his future.

Breaking Free is Book 3 in A.T. Brennan's The Den Boys series. The author states that this book can be read as a standalone, but don't do it! Honestly, read all of them! This series is terrific and it has recurring characters from the first book to this third book, and I think it's more enjoyable knowing the stories of the other couples. Even the supporting characters carry throughout the series, and you learn a little more about each of them throughout the series, so start at the beginning and read in the appropriate order!

We'd met Zander in the previous books, and knew he was beautiful and about one night stands, but we didn't know his story. His story is sad, but not as crushing as the two previous books and that was a relief for me. He meets Kai and though he's only wanting one night, he can't seem to forget him. Kai is not what he appears at first glance. At first we just see Kai, the twink go-go dancer. Then there's Kai, the cam boy. Kai, the son. Kai, the college student. Kai, the best friend. Kai, the person being stalked. Kai had a lot going on in his life and we learn more about him throughout the story. He's smart, loyal, hard working and understanding. Kai goes home with Zander, and though he wants more than one night, he knows that's what Zander is offering. As much as Zander doesn't want to, he's drawn to Kai and can't walk away.

I liked both of these characters and all the supporting characters. I loved the relationship and story about Kai and his mom. I thought that was fantastically written, and was a beautiful addition to a story. Even though Zander was the hard-playing bad-boy, once he found Kai, he quickly got his act together and moved on with accepting the loss of his first love. This really wasn't long or drawn out, which I appreciated. Zander's self chosen family was terrific and I loved seeing the couples from the previous stories continuing along with their HEA lives. I can't wait to read the next story, and I really hope the author doesn't shy away from giving Layla her HEA!

I wish the story with the stalker had been handled better, though. There was a great lead-up to the conclusion with the stalker but it fizzled for me. There was the anticipation when Zander figured out what was happening, the rush to getting to Kai, the stalker confrontation, the good guys winning, the end. I just needed a little more from this storyline, a less abrupt ending with this storyline, something just a little more.

Overall, I really enjoy this series and would highly recommend you check it out! And, if it matters to you, this series is available in Kindle Unlimited!

Rating: 4 stars!
