But when Duke is hurt on the job, all the unimportant trivialities fall to the wayside and Vaughan and Quick put their heads together to save Duke.
Part I of the Promises story is about Duke and Vaughan. Part II will be about Quick and his realization that it’s not too late for any of them to find love.

Duke Morgan owns a bail bond company in Atlanta and he and his group of bounty hunters track down criminals when they have failed to appear for their court date, aside from bonding them out of jail. He’s in his forties and is having a hard time getting over his most recent breakup.
Vaughan Webb is the son of Duke’s best friend and partner, Roman ‘Quick’ Webb, who’s been away studying to become a lawyer and who’s been in love with Duke since he was in his teens. He’s back to claim his man and he’s willing to do whatever he needs to do so, no matter the age difference or the fact that the man he wants is his father’s best friend.
Poor Duke won’t know what hits him once Vaughan puts his plan in motion, but the fact that Quick still hasn’t given him his blessing puts a damper on his acquiescence. Until a bounty hunt job goes awry and a life and death situation puts things into perspective again.
This was a fantastic story! I loved how it all played out. A.E. Via has a way to deliver romance, friendship and action and weave it all in a very tight, neat package. The romance between Vaughan and Duke was just lovely, Vaughan really made Duke feel worthy and gave him what he needed and the chemistry between them was unbelievably hot! The friendship between Duke and Quick and the rest of his men was a great touch, too. I loved seeing the little bits of Quick and Cayson, and I’m very intrigued by how their story will continue. And of course the action, wow, really, very few people write action like A.E. Via does. It was exciting and I was literally biting my nails as I was reading. Really recommendable read!
