Rory Donovan’s life is a hot mess. His marriage is failing and he’s in intensive psychotherapy, working through the unfortunate side effects of memories from a childhood trauma. The only thing good in his life right now is his job—teaching photography to gifted high school students.
Harbor Patrol officer Bennett Foster is co-parenting his teenage daughter with his high school best friend Jessie. When he meets Addison’s teacher and realizes they’ve met before, he can’t get the sexy stranger out of his head.
Striking up a sexual-tension-filled friendship, together they must help an angsty teenager deal with a dying friend. Bennett must keep his little family from falling apart while Rory struggles to come to terms with his new reality. Somewhere along the way, most unexpectedly…love happens.

Excerpt:
Dr. Conlan treated me to a rare fond smile, almost motherly in its warmth. “I’m pleased to see you happier than you have been.”
I grinned back, but then my brow furrowed. “Does this make me gay?”
“Does that matter?”
“I don’t know. Should it?”
“I’ll never understand the fascination with labeling things that our society seems to have. To me, sexuality is as intangible as the universe. There’s no way to truly know what’s out there, and how it all relates to everything else.
“As humans, we seek to know, to understand, and somehow we feel that putting things in boxes and labeling helps us do that. But some things are fluid, changing and developing with the tide of the evolution of life. Do me a favor, Rory. Don’t put yourself in a box.”
I was dumbfounded, stunned speechless. I knew I’d remember Dr. Conlan’s words for the rest of my life, and I would try to stay as true to them as I could. “I won’t,” I whispered.

Tracy's Review:

5 Stars

While reading the first two books in this series I have watched Rory and desperately wanted to get into his head and see what his story was. See what makes him tick. J.K. didn't disappoint. We go deep into Rory's head. Rory, a HS Photography teacher is sweet and totally confused. Things are not going well in his new marriage, but he doesn't know how to fix himself to make it better. Frustrated, he turns to therapy for help. We get an very in-depth look at Rory's past, while he works through his issues.

Bennett, a Harbor Patrol Officer, knows who he is. He is gay, but he isn't out except to his work partner, his daughter, Addy and her mother, Jessie. He is a loving and devoted father and a workaholic without much of a social life.

The two men meet through mutual friends and again through a parent teacher conference concerning Bennett's daughter, who also happens to be one of Rory's students, Addy. They continue to be thrown together in different circumstances and eventually form a friendship. But will the friendship between them lead to more?

I couldn't wait for this book, and I absolutely loved it! I haven't read a book by this author yet that I haven't loved. This book made me feel. I felt Rory's frustration, hurt and sadness. I felt like I knew these characters inside and out. I loved how in-depth the character development was. Both of these guys are extremely lovable and you can't help but root for them to find their way. They had a chemistry, love, and passion you could just feel. The story had enough angst to keep you interested, but not so much you wanted to pull your hair out. As in every other book I have read by this author, the sex was smoking hot!!

The secondary characters, especially Addison were also all well developed and added nicely to the story. I loved getting to revisit some of the previous MC's from this series.

I wanted a conclusion, but I didn't want this to end. I am sad to look on goodreeads and see I have now read all of this author's M/M works. I can't wait for her to write more in the future, and I hope to see more of the couples from this series in the future as well.

Awesome read, highly recommended!!

Character Interview:

Today I'm happy to welcome Rory, from Unbreak Broken by J.K. Hogan, to Bayou Book Junkie!

Rory, thanks so much for agreeing to this interview. It's a pleasure to have y'all here!

BBJ: What is your biggest fear?

Rory: Tornados. *shudders* There’s a reason I live in Seattle. I went to college in the Midwest and it was terrifying being close to that type of weather. I got unbelievably lucky in that we had no tornados come near campus while I was there.

BBJ: What is your most prized possession?

Rory: Definitely my camera. I have a Canon Rebel EOS t3i digital SLR. It’s my baby. Next to Bennett, it’s the most important thing in my life. I guess since I teach photography, I can justify my obsession, at least a little bit.

BBJ: What do you enjoy doing on your day off?

Rory: Going out on Bennett’s fishing boat and just cruising the sound for the day. It’s the most relaxing thing.

BBJ: Your best childhood memory?

Rory: That would have to be my big trip to Disney World when I was seven. Most people who know me would say that I’m a bit of a freak when it comes to Disney movies… So I was in heaven out there.

BBJ: Where do you hope to be in five years?

Rory: I’m supposed to have some big revelation aren’t I? Or a huge goal? But honestly, I love my job, I love where I live… I don’t have any plans for that to change. The only difference maybe would be if Bennett and I were living together… or who knows, maybe even married now that we can.

Meet J.K. Hogan:
J.K. Hogan has been telling stories for as long as she can remember, beginning with writing cast lists and storylines for her toys growing up. When she finally decided to put pen to paper, magic happened. She is greatly inspired by all kinds of music and often creates a “soundtrack” for her stories as she writes them. J.K. is hoping to one day have a little something for everyone, so she’s branched out from m/f paranormal romance and added m/m contemporary romance. Who knows what’s next?
J.K. resides in North Carolina, where she was born and raised. A true southern girl at heart, she lives in the country with her husband and young son, a cat, and two champion agility dogs. If she isn’t on the agility field, J.K. can often be found chasing waterfalls in the mountains with her husband, or down in front at a blues concert. In addition to writing, she enjoys training and competing in dog sports, spending time with her large southern family, camping, boating and, of course, reading!
