Mari's Review

* ARC provided to Bayou Book Junkie in exchange for a fair and honest review. *

Levi and Steel met in a very unconventional way, at a BDSM club. Due to the scars he suffered during the war, Steel is intent on keeping Levi at arm’s length, despite knowing the other man is his mate. The only contact he will allow is through his flogger when they’re in session every Saturday.

Levi is not happy with this arrangement, but he will do whatever is needed to stay close to the man he knows is his fated mate. Actually, it broke my heart how much he suffered when Steel would leave him to take care of himself when they finished a session.

Steel is a very complex character. I wasn’t sure I was going to like him at first. Although that changed once the Alpha in their pack/club makes him see the light, so to speak, and he realizes how much Levi has suffered by following Steel's rules for their encounters.

Levi was very sweet and loyal, both to his friends and to Steel, despite the fact that the older man refused to mate him, even if that killed him every time.

I loved that after the initial foray into BDSM, the story didn’t really center on that and Lisa Oliver showed us a new side to Steel and Levi once they finally sat down and talked. The chemistry between them was great and the sex scenes were hot.

This book was a good read, the main and secondary characters are likable for the most part and it has an interesting plot. My only complaint is the editing. There are several grammatical mistakes and the lack of punctuation made me have to re-read a lot of sentences to understand their meaning. Other than that, it’s an enjoyable, fast-paced read and I certainly wouldn’t mind reading more stories in this series.

Rating: 4 shifting stars.
